Firstly is a fascinating blog by ExOttoyuhr that examines Sunset Shimmer from an angle I don't think anyone else has considered.
Do you enjoy existential mysteries? Background humans? Morally ambiguous, enigmatic, plot catalyzing lovebugs? If yes to any of these, you're going to like The Fishbowl, Shrink Laureate's labor of love that's been years in the making. Going by what I've seen thus far, it's been worth the wait.
Speaking from experience, recursive fanworks are some of the most flattering forms of feedback one can receive. If you're fishing for these high compliments, here are two anthologies where you can cast your reel.
It's always nice to find a promising new author. RangerOfRhudaur is putting together some great EqG fics with magic resurging into the world at a terrifying rate. Those familiar with my own work will likely understand why that caught my interest. I recommend them wholeheartedly.
Well, not quite a wolf, but there aren't currently any coyotes in Magic.
It would make me happy if Sweetie.log got at least an honourable mention on the Top 10 Pony Videos for July. In hindsight I picked a bad month to release it, with Bronycon and its inevitable stream of PMVs and other videos, but I can hope.

I'm a bit late to the party here, but Nyronus put up a wonderfully insightful blog this morning on writing, writing advice, and the folly of blind adherence to conventional wisdom. Anyone who has even considered putting a story out there for others to see should give it a look.
I am very pleased! The third chapter did much better than I had expected and even managed to get the story briefly featured!
I was so overjoyed that my productivity immediately took a nose dive into the concrete and died a painful and agonizing death. It happens sometimes. I may also, maybe, screamed like the little girl deep inside my soul. The little boy inside was content to just jump and do an enthusiastic Naruto run over the walls of my psyche.
This is a combination teaser for and reminder of my current ongoing project, Ideas Entwined. In hindsight, opening with fewer than two thousand words and leading with an MtG crossover wasn't exactly the strongest showing out of the gate for the story, but it's grown considerably since then. If you gave it a pass at first (or just missed it,) I hope you give it another look.
You may have noticed Estee's latest story, one about a suspiciously familiar subculture in Equestria. If not, like many great ideas, it can be summarized by the innocuous moment from the show that inspired it:
I first came across Bubble Butt with their story I just wanted to go to Equestria!, which may be the only example of a "human in Equestria Girls" story on the site. (That is to say, a story where a more conventionally colored person finds themself in the vicinity of Canterlot High. Feel free to correct me on the superlative.)

...those who have been wondering, I am still alive, I'm still with the brony community and still doing fan fictions. However, I've gotten busy in the last couple weeks with doing commissions for others and other projects. Because of that, the writing has kinda got shifted to the side a little bit.
...but it counts. Cause And Distress finally has gotten an update after nearly a year and a half. Hopefully, y'all will enjoy it.
In other news, the reason I've not been blogging and/or posting stories/updates as much recently is that I've been busy with doing artwork. If y'all are interested, here's a few samples of what I've done.
A British Gentleman has proposed a series of writing prompts that are equal parts tricky and rare in ponyfic. This first prompt's a doozy: Second-person Human in Equestria with a female perspective character. Frankly, I've got nothing, but if you're inspired, details can be found here.
The Archetypist will conclude with its final chapter in about 12 hours or so, whenever I manage to log on tomorrow morning. I hope everyone who's been following it has enjoyed the story so far, and I look forward to discussing it with you soon!
Specifically, Tumbleweed's Springtime Sequel Slash Sandbox Switcheroo, a contest that only opened about fifteen minutes ago. It's elegant in its simplicity: After signups close, each participant will be given a random other participant. Then you write a story based on one of that person's stories.
